My mom is due for an upgrade with rogers but doesn't want to get a new phone cause she likes hers. She can get the samsung galaxy edge 7 which is the phone I desperately want but I'm with koodo. Is there a way for me to get her phone even though she's with rogers and I'm with koodo?

Im not sure why you wouldnt get the Galaxy S7 Edge from Koodo? But you can get it from Rogers but will have to unlock the phone before using it with Koodo

What does your mom currently pay for just her cellphone plan? Also yes you would be able to use this phone but it will have to be unlocked for between $5-$50 depending on where you get it done.

Thanks for your help! I'm not exactly what her plan is but I will discuss with her everything you've told me here. I appreciate your help!

No problem, sorry for the confusion if i caused any. Its just a very expensive plan and wanted to make sure you knew that! Best of luck!

I'll add that if you take the new phone option now, and she needs a new phone in the next two years, there may be a buy-out cost, or a need to purchase a phone at full price.

Agreed with David's post. But then again, OP could criss-cross the phone subsidies. Say OP's mom needs a phone, then OP could get a new phone (maybe a cheaper phone than the Galaxy S7 edge, examples could be Galaxy J or A series, or if they have a next gen to the S5 neo) on her Koodo line. Then grab an unlock code on eBay for the Android phone, and OP's mom could use it with her Rogers sim card

:P

RE: OP: say your mom were to upgrade to the S7 edge with Rogers, you could grab the unlock code on eBay for $8-15. I've never had a single issue getting unlock codes on eBay (got plenty by now). Agreed with Allan that Rogers has expensive plans. Maybe she's getting multi-product discounts bundled with home services. Whatever the reason, if you go that route, you'll only get the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty, meaning you could drop the phone at a Rogers store for repair if need be. You would not be eligible for Rogers protection plan, because as per their terms of service, that's void just by using the phone with a different phone number than the one subsidizing the phone.

If she's been offered an upgrade, is it an early upgrade? If she's not under any contract, then all veins open, she can go for a deal with any carrier. If it's an early upgrade and they're also waiving her current buy-out, that might also be a factor to decide whether to stay with them or not.
