Roaming charges

Hello... I have been in the US since January 1 and will be returning April 5. I use my phone for texting only which is a $5 charge per month and I am satisfied with that. But.. Each month I have been charged $5 roaming fees when my data roaming has been turned off the entire time. Can anyone enlighten me as to why this might be happening.

Thank you
Joanne

Turn cellular data off, not just data roaming. If you don't the phone will occasionally reach out to the tower and use tiny amounts of data before realizing you are roaming.

Hi Joanne,
There should be detail item in your monthly bill (pdf bill) that explained the $5 charge. I would suggest you check it.
If the roaming amount was tiny, like 0.01MB then it could be issues with network (data leak, or network hand off). If it was a big amount like 1MB, it could be issue with one of your app.

I am not sure if you have turned off  cellular data/mobile data. If you haven't, then you should do it. (you mentioned about roaming data off, which is another option in iPhone)

Thanks everyone. Yes it seems to be a miniscule amount of data. I have a Samsung a5 2017 phone and can't seem to find where the cellular data might be to turn off.

Check the data usage page in the settings menu.

Thanks Timo. Good grief you sure need a manual with all these phones to figure stuff out!!!

Since it's so tiny you could ask Koodo to reimburse the charges.PST companies don't do charges older than 30 days past the bill coming out but at least you could get something.

Joanne, I too inquired about this.  Someone in the forum asked me if I rebooted the phone while I was in the States.  I couldn't remember.  Do you recall?

No I never did reboot my phone. Perhaps by rebooting it would not reapply the data roaming button to off. Don't know???

It shouldn't. You can always restart and look immediately to see if so.
