Renew online and receive an additional $25 off!

I'm planning to upgrade before tomorrow because Koodo is giving me a bunch of discounts on phones--two questions

1-When I look at some specific phone pages, it says "Renew online and receive an additional $25 off!" though it is not obvious where this additional $25 is discounted from. Will it be taken off my initial tab balance? (That being said, my offer is specifically "Get an extra $100 off any phone when you upgrade your phone with the Tab today!"...most of the phones are discounted $100+ so I assume that's where this discount comes in...)

2-When I'm in the checkout for one specific phone (Moto G Play), I have at the bottom of the screen $3 per month (before tax). I clicked checkout, and it takes me to a credit card page where it says $11.50 per month (after tax). Last time I checked, tax in Quebec isn't that high... are there other fees and things they are tacking on here?? Why is my tab small, which is supposed to be $3, now going to be 11.50?

Thanks!

Hello Andrea,

1-When I look at some specific phone pages, it says "Renew online and receive an additional $25 off!" though it is not obvious where this additional $25 is discounted from. Have you tried purchasing a phone to see if you get an extra 25$ off that particular phone?

I think that's the 3$ for the curent biking cycle + 7$ for the next billing cycle. It's called pro-ration, that's why you might get charged 11.50$ for the first month.

Yes--using the Moto G Play as an example, right now it is showing -$172 discount on its main phone page. It is a $240 phone (retail value), so when I checkout with this phone, it shows 240-172 and $68 will go on my tab. I realise this is both more than $100, and extra $25 off, but it is unclear where these are applied.
Maybe "Get an extra $100 off any phone when you upgrade your phone with the Tab today!" means get at least $100 off ($172 for Moto G Play)? What is extra?
So same question; is the -$172 the same deal I would get in store, and if so, where is the additional $25.
I think that's the 3$ for the curent billing cycle + 7$ for the next billing cycle.
Using the Moto G Play as an example again, $68 will go on my tab, which means $3 per month, Tab Small. Why would there be a $7 charge for next month? It does not break down the charge, so at most if what you say is true than it should be $6 (but I don't understand why this would be the case anyway, since the current billing cycle ends today).

I'm going to try to take advantage of this offer today before it ends! I just need to clarify this before I do...
Thanks!

The "Get an extra $100 off any phone when you upgrade your phone with the Tab today!" is applied to the pink thing. As you can see, mine is only 72$ while yours is at 172$ (+100$). So there's an answer to your question. So you'll pay $0 for your phone and put the rest (168.00-100$ = 68$) on your Tab.

As for your your second concern
Using the Moto G Play as an example again, $68 will go on my tab, which means $3 per month, Tab Small. Why would there be a $7 charge for next month? It does not break down the charge, so at most if what you say is true than it should be $6 (but I don't understand why this would be the case anyway, since the current billing cycle ends today).
I'm not sure whether Koodo splits it up in 24 months or just does 7$ per month until it's fully paid.

Lastly, for the 25$, I have no idea where it went. Maybe if you look around on other phone, you'll get a special 25$ off

PS : can you pout screenshots of your offers so we can better help you out

Cool, thanks!

Yeah screen shots would have helped.
This is the offer...

Then this is after it is in my cart:

Then this is after I hit Check out:

There is NO other info on the page to explain the discrepancy, it is just asking me for credit card info.

Any insight here? I now understand where the $100 is, but the $25 off, extra, and the monthly charge are still mysteries... It is a decent deal any way you slice it, but I want to understand the ins and outs.

Thanks again.

Is it possible that the 25$ might be applied to your plan on the first month? Do you happen to pay +/- 35$ per month after tax??

I do indeed ($35/month on the nose). That's a great point. Just weird how it is presented then, as if my recurring monthly charge will be $11.50 (either for the plan or for the tab).

New q: is there a way for me to find out definitively? It seems like I get charged for anything if I call in. Otherwise I will try to stop by a store this eve, then finish the transaction online.

Thanks for everything.

You only get charged for a rep to preform a task that you can do on you own, change your plan, etc.
In your case, you will be fine to just ask whats going on. I would regularly recommend messaging Koodo via Facebook or Twitter but if you want this phone purchased by the end of the day it may be best to call.

Thanks all. For the record:
  • the $25 off has to be added manually as a credit against the tab balance by Koodo (by phone or email support)
  • the 3$ that becomes $11.50 after tax is a glitch in the system. Before my discounts, it would typically be a $10 tab charge per month, so after I checkout, it is showing the non-discounted amount, while I will continue to pay $3 per month.
