Refer a friend - promo

Hi there, I referred my friend on June 3rd to Koodo. He accepted my referral on the 8th or 9th of June. It tells him that he is not finished activating the referral and that he has to complete the process once he gets his SIM card and whatnot. The next day (or close to it), the referral $50 promo is available, and so we get very excited. Since he hasn’t activated his sim or completed the referral, we assumed we’d both be getting $50.

Why wouldn’t we get the $50? We only got $25.

Isn’t the opposite true? If I referred him during the $50 promo period but he doesn’t actually activate until after the promo period is over, then you lose out on the promo. So why can’t this work out to our benefit if the reverse is true?

This really makes me think twice about Koodo and its referral process.

Hmm that's an interesting way it worked out. You can try sending a private message to Koodo via Facebook Messenger or DM via Twitter and explain this and see if they will adjust it or at least you get confirmation that's how Koodo does it.

I’ve reached out to Koodo. And they still did not address the part that really bothers me. They can’t have it both ways. That it must be completed during the promo period, and that the initial referral was done before he promo period regardless of the activation during the promo. Here’s koodo’s Reply

Credits are based on how, when the Referrer sent the request and when did the referees activate their lines. We can see here that you referred your friend for $25 reward promotion. We can only reward you for $25 credit because the campaign promotion you're applied for is $25 credit. We are unable to reward you any additional credit for this referral.

Hi there Amanda!

When referral was sent as per what you said, the amount to be given was 25$...

Promotions changes without any notice.

The point I’m trying to make is that the reverse is true, is it not?

Like, if I refer a friend today (while the promo for $50 is on), but the final activation isn’t until after the promo period has ended, I’m SURE Koodo doesn’t honour the $50. They’ll say “too bad the promo is over”. So why is the reverse not true? Koodo wins both ways.

Very well written Amanda.  I think this is a very fair request Karl

@Dennis it is and it isn't [a fair request from Amanda].

Sorry @Amanda I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you previously complained that Koodo can't have it both ways when you thought that you'd always end up with the worst case scenario but now, in my opinion, by asking for this exception, you're asking to always get the best case scenario and are actually asking to "have it both ways".  IMHO they need to pick one point in time when the referral at play gets locked in.  Either they need to always give what's currently available which would mean you would be better ahead in this case but then someone that registered but the referrals got worse before they could complete the second step would end up getting the proverbial shaft.

In that case it needs to be clearly in writing on the refer a friend page

Thank you @dennis. I agree. It’s not clearly stated at all.

@Dennis now that is a fair statement!  :)

I tried looking for any reference to it in the Rules and Terms & Conditions but only came up with one little applicable clause in the T&C's:
Koodo Mobile may end the Program or change any of the terms at any time, without notice and without obligation to award any referral credits.
(Emphasis was added by me.)  They really need to spell it out in the FAQ portion of the Rules page though.
