When I moved to the states, I unlocked my phone and got a new SIM card. I'm heading home to Canada for the holidays and wonder if there is a way I can do some pay-as-you-go with my old koodo SIM card.

We just closed our account in November, but got the phones (and card) over 3 years ago.

You should still be able to activate the same card. Was it a prepaid card before?

No, it was a monthly plan.

Prepaid SIM cards are different from postpaid ones, Anne. Even if your SIM was unused I'm afraid you'll need a prepaid SIM and activate that... also prepaid SIM cards are never reusable unlike the postpaid ones (and grr at that lol)
