Question about the email : "get a great new phone"

I have been using my phone for the past 2.5 years. Last week, I got an email to "get a great new phone". I will have to pay off my tab though, and get the same deal already advertised in the website. The email mentioned to take a copy of the email to a koodo shop to get the deal. The employee there also wanted to take my phone, in order to get a new one. Why would I have to settle my tab, and give up my phone if I am getting the same deal. seems the employee didn't know what he was talking about.

In order to start a new tab you must settle your old tab.

Trading in your old phone is part of this deal. If you want the accessory credit. But that's optional.

It's optional, if you want the 100$ accessory credit you trade. I wouldn't recommend trading if your phones value is higher than the credit.

ok, that makes sense now. Thanks. But how can I ensure that my info on the phone is not compromised

You mean if you trade it in?

Backup all the photos, messages, etc to a safe place

Goto settings... Security... Encrypt device

After your device is encrypted, goto

Settings... Backup and restore... Factory restore.

Assuming you have an Android device

IPhone and windows phone may be different

Edit: warning Doing the factory restore deletes everything on your device and returns it to the way it was when you got it. If you didn't backup, the data is gone forever

I think there is some confusion about the trad-in part. Some stores are saying it's not required when I called them. I got the email too. Can anyone from koodo officially settle this?

Hi Linda!

You will receive indeed $100 in accessories credits upon upgrading and you will not need to trade in your device to take advantage from this offer.

Thanks and enjoy! :)

I assume one can trade in ANY phone...why does it have to be the latest one?

Well, now that we know that trade in is not necessary, I guess it doesn't matter.
