Hi Diane,

Yes, you can put your plan on a seasonal hold up to 6 months, it will cost you $15 per month + tab (if you are on Tab Medium or Large).

You might need to unlock the phone to use with an American Sim card, but I'd say that is well worth the cost! Unlocking, if done by Koodo, will cost you $50 and it requires your account is in good standing with at least 3 paid bills in full :)

No, it is a plan change, and can be done once per billing cycle

No offense was intended. My comment was that after two years of being told it was on the self serve site I was getting other info. It has been a real pain to have a question answered with info that did not work. Thank you.

@James,
   It was on the self-serve site at one time, but was removed due to abuses by some folks. If you were looking at old questions and answers, then you would have seen the old information.  It is because of this stale-dating of information that we ask folks to start a new question in a new thread - it populates the forum with more recent information.

No offense was taken, I just wished to point out that answers were provided in a timely fashion.

there is apparently no such thing as a seasonal hold on any acct/plan, just on the phone number. If this is true then that should be stated up front.

Do you mean this?
You can find this from FAQ under the "Managing My Bill"

I'm leaving the country for a few months. Can I still keep my account open?Great news! Koodo now offers the Seasonal Hold Plan for just $15/month. It lets you keep your Koodo phone number and account open while traveling outside of Canada.

This plan temporary suspends your wireless service, including voice, data, and text, and your regular monthly plan charge, and is only available by calling Koodo.

A few things to keep in mind:
  • When you change your plan to Seasonal Hold, your previous monthly plan may not be available. But good news – you’ll be able to choose from any of our latest monthly plans.
  • To be eligible, your account must be in good standing and active for at least 90 days.
  • If you have a monthly Tab Charge, this charge will not be suspended while you’re on the Seasonal Hold Plan.
  • Only 911 calls can be placed while your phone is temporarily suspended.

When I was trying to find an answer to this question "Managing My Account" never came up in any responses. Respectfully, Mayumi's reply fails to point out the "good news" is that the options in your old plan may no longer be available and if they are, you may have to pay more for them in your new plan. I spoke to an employee at a Koodo Kiosk and was told I would retain my plan and that's what the $15 was for. Now I find that's not true.
