This has happened before, can't get any calls everything else works, is this a way to use up my minutes??
Pixel XL, this started when my minutes ran out and it didn't move over to the 600 minutes I had in my account and kood cut me off when I was talking to my Doctor.

Turned off phone and restarted nothing.

Got to have this solved asp.

Thanks

Hmm you'll need to send a private message to Koodo via Facebook Messenger or DM via Twitter then to have it looked at if you have bought minutes and it shows up on your prepaid but your phone shuts down and n you can't use it.

@jcsousa: I would suggest you reset the network settings. It could be some issues with certain bands or LTE/3G in your area.

Hmmmm..... I wonder if your tower is overwhelmed! There are only a certain number of radio pairs on a tower, and if overwhelmed, the system sends to VM. what happens if you call out?

Making outgoing calls works fine, starting to get some calls but still many are not getting thru.

I have prepaid in a rural area and have experience with reception issues. You just can't beat the system sometimes. If your phone is good in town at the Koodo store, then your SIM and handset are probably not the primary cause.

Download the app Signal Strength and ignore the bars you see in the phone's notification area. If your reception is in the red or amber zone, then you've got problems. My reception is acceptable after the leaves fall in September but starts to get worse mid-April.

You can also check where your local tower is located. If it's run by Bell or Telus, you should be OK. It it's another carrier (say Rogers), you may be out of luck since prepaid customers don't get to roam for free on other carriers. If you see a strong "foreign" tower, it's entirely possible that switching to post-paid would solve your problem.. or point you in a direction where local reception may be better. It never hurts to talk to local folks to see what their experiences have been.

Lastly, the lower the frequency, the better a signal penetrates. My local tower is operated by Bell, at 700 for LTE and 850 for voice, and my best reception (when available) is on the 700 LTE band.

Telus tower is a block away and I have been with Koodo for about 4 years with no reception problems.

Signal strength is -92
Speed test LTE is 101 and upload is 25

Still no go, Thanks

Are you able to text successfully?

Should be much better than -92 a block from the tower.

Some non/complimentary remarks about Pixel XL reception issues:

https://forums.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-pixel-xl/737570-pixel-xl-signal-strength.html

Can you successfully send yourself a text without any undue delay? If texting is no good: SIM, connection or handset might be flaky. Sad to say, Google "Pixel XL reception" for other complaints but not too many solutions.

Any results from Koodo re: resetting your account on their end?

Yes texting sending and receiving works it's just some numbers that are going straight to voicemail. They are still trying to find out what's happening.

@Bob wow neat trick! I had no idea you could send a text message to your own number to test.  I'd never thought to try, but I just did (you know, for science!) and it delivered to me in under a second.  Pretty cool.

What happens when you switch network modes? To do this, go to: Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Preferred Network Type - select 3G. Do not reboot or restart phone. Does signal strength improve?

No difference and doesn't work.

Using Google Hangouts to call myself goes straight to voicemail and Amazon calls straight to VM.

All my cell phone problems started when I purchased the canada wide talk 600 minutes, it was supposed to start when my other minutes ran out, but instead Koodo cut me off and sent a text message saying you have no minutes left and my phone call that I was on got disconnected.
On Friday while I was having an MRI they sent me a text saying I used %50 of my data booster and to call 611 that was over 300 mgs.

Sounds like a minutes issues.
Does it show you have these boosters on self serve? Can you still not call out even after rebooting? If so you need to contact koodo as there is something wrong with your account (something seems stuck or blocked) . Send them a pm via Facebook or Twitter.

So does that mean when you leave downtown, everything works?
Does it work at Polo or by the UofM?

If it's not the tower why when at Polo Park I get most calls.
I will be trying Amazon and Google calls from Polo Park, will post.

I didn't save the voicemails with the number, as you know the number does not show on my phone, I am sure tech could check and see the numbers most of them are from the Filipinos.

Well went to Polo Park got a call from Hangouts and it works there also got Amazon to call me and it went straight to voicemail.

All week not one peep from KOODO tech. Wonder what kind of battle I will have to have with Koodo to reimburse for all my Data and Minutes in my account without losing my Cell Number.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You mentioned you were cut off when you were talking to your doctor in the first post. Now it was a different amazon number issue? I think it could be other issue of network reception. Have you tried to test the SIM in another phone, or made call in another location?
Photo of jcsousa

jcsousa

  • 588 Points 500 badge 2x thumb
Yes diferente locations and and new sim. I have been using the same phone for months and never had this issue before.
This is covered on Earlier posts, all calls where going to voicemail and it took a few days to get most of them thru now has far as I know some calls from Hangouts not coming thru and Amazon all go to voicemail.

@jcsousa: I would try to reset the network settings of the pixel and see if it helps  (Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options).

If you are close to a Koodo kiosk, then I would suggest you go there and check in with them. It would be hard to know what was the cause of it remotely. Hangouts are using wifi/cellular data. They belongs to different system of google.

Also, can you post a snapshot of your selfserve where it show your minutes/data? (delete all personal information before posting pls)

Do you use hangouts as your phone app?
If you are using hangouts for a data call I don't see how this would be connected to Amazon voice calls going to voicemail

I see that Google Hangouts and Amazon is mentioned throughout this discussion. It's possible these apps might be conflicting with the phones' mode of operation. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling or disabling these apps, for the time being, to see if this resolves the issue?
Photo of jcsousa

jcsousa

  • 588 Points 500 badge 2x thumb
Apps are not the cause, they were working perfectly before. People use it to call me on my Koodo phone using my cell minutes not hangouts to hangouts calls.
Google support calls go to voicemail.

I really hope that the guy that helped me today gets a promotion to the highest level.
I can't believe that they never figured it out, and I repeatedly kept saying it happened when the booster add on changed.
Thanks KOODO but no thanks for changing the way I get my calls from US and International you could have sent an email about the changes, that if I wanted to receive Calls from outside of CANADA I NEEDED a (Long Distance Talk Booster).

Now will have to call for credit for the use of my emergency account with 711 prepaid.

I hope thi is the last time they make changes I am getting too old to keep up with this sh**t.

:(
