Prepaid Call Forwarding - Now that it's listed as included in Base Plans

I previously looked into Koodoo Prepaid plans, but the option for Call Forwarding that # elsewhere (in my case to a VOIP #) was not available on prepaid. However, when I looked today, it now says under all Base Plans Include: Call Forwarding


So the question is, if I had just a $15 Unlimited Text Baseplan, does setting Call Forwarding to "Forward All Calls" require a voice minutes booster, and more importantly, do those forwarding calls being passed on by Koodoo to my other # use up Voice Minutes. 

(They don't use minutes on my current Postpaid Rogers plan)

That little superior 5 in the graphic says that you must have sufficient minutes in your booster to use voice features. In prepaid, it's pretty well the norm that you use minutes for everything.

Koodo postpaid forwarding also has an available add-on for a few bucks a month that doesn't use your plan minutes, like your Rogers postpaid. But without the forwarding add-on, there feature is there but there is a toll charge on every call.

Call forwarding in prepaid may be something new or it may be an erroneous graphic, because I lost forwarding when I switched from postpaid several months ago. The GSM function codes to activate would no longer work, but at the time the web site for pre-paid made no mention of forwarding.

An official Koodo rep will have to clarify.

Thanks Bob, I'll wait for them to clarify as well, I did get through to a rep on the phone who said that Call Forwarding on the Prepaid would not use minutes on the Koodoo account (like PostPaid) and would only use minutes as normal on the actual receiving phone # (and of course for the caller, she had to re-state that).

Hmm - it doesn't show up in the overview of my base plan when I log in to prepaid self-service (I have the $15 unlimited text base plan and a talk booster). I just set up a freephoneline number and tried to forward calls to it on my Nokia Lumia 635. The phone wouldn't let me do that - it says "We're having trouble saving your call forwarding info right now. Check back in a little while". I'd be interested to see if it does work for someone.

I'll test it out once I pick up my Prepaid SIM tonight and see where I get over the weekend. For my setup it's not critical as my "Main" phone # is on my Voip solution (Spout - Edmonton based) in this case, I just figured then if someone is texting me on the Koodoo # which I will use for SMS and tries calling when I have no Voice Booster, it can just forward on to that Voip # and still connect just fine :)

Oh, and Ray, mentioning a Lumia 635, I originally set myself up with this on my 1020, and now on my 950 XL, I do have a solution working now to reliably have a VOIP # ring through to Windows Phone and wake the phone up from the app being completely closed or in the background. Usually rings on the phone before the end of the first ring for the caller.

Trying to forward a call BEFORE you add the voice booster will be the acid test. But my suspicion is no booster = cut off from Koodo phone system entirely = no forwarding. Will be curious to where in the stratosphere that incoming call ends up....

But if it's as the Koodo rep says, the minimum Koodo call booster will go a long way... until someone upstream figures out there's a revenue loss there.

That's what makes me think it's a mis-print or something that will vanish from the prepaid webpage quickly, but I'll still test it out :P

Tested this morning with all of the *72 Short Code, the *21* Short Codes, as well as my Windows Phone method which attempts to set it up, and all three failed. So I would assume it's a mis-print (as well as mis-spoken by the rep on the phone), or maybe (unlikely) a future feature that's not setup yet but was printed in the graphic.

Otherwise the service works great, given my main Phone # anyways is a VOIP # at TheSpout and it rings through to my phone perfectly, I just setup my Voicemail on the Koodoo # to let folks know I use it for Messaging & Data only :)
