prepaid but no remote access

I have a prepaid IPhone 5 of which I paid $50 for and they said I can call anyone in Canada free as well as text and email all I want each month...but, the first month I wasn't able to call or text unless I was on WIFI...then I topped up and was able to make calls but still can't text or email unless on wifi..I cannot get any help from Koodo and thinking of cancelling. This is just poor service. My son has the same service and he can text and email in remote areas

Who is 'they?' Which plan do you have on prepaid? Are you topped up for your monthly amount? You need data with imessage to work but you should still be able to text regardless on any koodo prepaid plan.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

Hi, have the Koodo unlimited prepaid of $50 a month. I was told my Data was included to email or Text. So far cannot do either without wifi. I have tried to go to the local dealer and she said I should be able to but cannot. She suggested that I contact directly. but only see a place where they charge to ask questions. Is there some type of setting on my phone where I should activate something. The first month I couldn't make calls, text or email. then I topped up another 50$ and could make calls but still can't text or email.

This is what you're looking for for inputs:

Restart your phone. Cycle airplane mode. Pull out your Sim card, put it back in. Restart your phone again. If it still doesn't work, reset network settings. Go to settings, general, reset, reset network settings. It will erase all your Wi-Fi and BT credentials.

Let us know if it still doesn't work.

First of all, with the $50 plan there is no data included. The only thing you CAN do is send text/MMS messages, but data will need to be switched on to be able to do that. Email will only be possible on WiFi unless you buy a data booster. 

So really it sounds like your plan is working as expected... unless you're saying you can't send ANY type of text message?
