Positive tab conversion as bill credit.

My old positive tab balance was apparently converted to a phone upgrade credit awhile back, of $150 online, or only $110 in-store.  I'm going to use it to get a new iPhone 7 instead of swimming the murky seas of the used market, but I am discontented.   Koodo doesn't carry the silver or gold colors I would have preferred, so I'm stuck with another black phone.  They're currently warning about possible 10 business day delays just to process online orders, but if I go to a store it will cost me another $65 in lower credit and the new SIM card that an online order will provide.

I notice that Koodo is doing a special offer on Galaxy9 pre-orders, and offering it as a bill credit.  Since that mechanism is in the billing system, it would have been nice if the tab conversion could have been handled that way as well, even if some limiting condition had to be included to avoid monetizing people that otherwise wouldn't have cashed in their credit.  I could have just gotten the phone I wanted from Apple, when I needed it, and continued as a happy Koodo customer, instead of what I suspect will be a somewhat resentful one every time I look at the phone...

Your one of very few that still hasn't converted the positive tab into a phone so while your idea may be considerable in theory its kind of null and void at this time in the game. That said the tab has always had no value other than as a phone credit so it wouldn't be considered now that I think of it. Bill and tab credits are totally separate in thr books

I'm too lazy to go looking back, but I think the positive balance was sort of the equivalent of the BYOD discount on the plans, an so much more of an actual value than funny-money loyalty points, although Koodo would obviously have been factoring in some level of non-redemption.  In any case, I'm mainly just kvetching about still being caught up in the legacy tendrils of the cartel's byzantine financial models.

I've been here for over 5 years and am one of the reasons for the BYOD discount as it was my idea they implemented and I can tell you I'm correct, as full of myself I sound saying this lol. The tab has from day one been stated in thr fine print that it has no cash value and can not be transfered or used for anything but a device discount.

I never suggested that the positive balance was legally cash, only that the accumulation might have represented the equivalent of the actual-cash BYOD discounts and thus they might have had some scope to provide it back.
I can't remember why I didn't switch from the Tab to BYOD once I would have been able - either never thought of it, or it wasn't available, or what.  If the former I certainly wish I had a time machine, given the limitations on the iPhone varieties Koodo stocks.
