I got a Blackberry Curve years ago and now have a positive tab balance.  I would like another Blackberry but Koodo no longer has them so I was thinking that I would have to buy one outright.  Can I order a Blackberry phone through Koodo and apply my tab to that phone?  What if I buy an unlocked Blackberry?  What happens to my tab?

You can only use your tab on devices koodo currently offers. Your best option is to use the tab credit to buy a phone. Sell it. And buy your next blackberry with the proceeds.

If you just buy an unlocked BB nothing happens to your tab however some of your old bb add ons may not be compatible with a BB10 or BB Priv device (like bb social). You may need to change your plan, or not.

A heads up too, the tab has changed and koodo no longer contributes to your account. Whatever you finance over your tab credit, you'll have to pay back over the next 24 months.

unfortunately even online Koodo does not offer any Blackberrys

but if you were to buy one out ( unlocked of course) we can just set up you up with the cirrest sized sim if need be and transfer you info from your old blackberry to the new one!

as for the positive tab balance, It would stay there until it was used!

Would I still have to pay into the tab?

No, you only use a tab if you want to. If you buy an unlocked phone outright from somewhere else and bring it to Koodo then you're not using a tab.

Or if you pay full price for a koodo phone then you wouldn't pay into the tab.

Any phone I get using my tab will be locked?

Typically, any phone you get from a carrier will be locked to that carrier except for Nexus devices which are factory unlocked. Carriers typically charge a fee to unlock one of their own devices

So I can request at any time to cancel the tab and my monthly payment would be reduced by that amount?

Yes, you can choose, at any time, that you'd like to pay off your tab. The next bill will include your remaining balance.

It can be done right in self serve without having to talk to anyone on the phone.

You just tap "pay my tab" :)

At that point the monthly tab charge drops off your monthly bill and you only pay for your plan.

I have a positive tab balance.  I don't have a tab to pay off.  How do I stop the tab?

My understanding from your email is that I can stop the tab by choosing to "pay it off".  Does the amount that I have remain in my tab in case I want to use it at a future date?

I would suggest buying a phone with it, even if a Moto G/E and sell it. Yo could unlock it first to help sell it quicker. Then as other hav said, use the money towards a bb
