Porting Number from Telus to Koodo Help

Hi guys, I just signed up for Koodo 35 Canada Wide Data Plan and got a new number on June 2. Basically my Telus contract ends on June 6, and my billing cycle ends on June 11. I talked to a Telus rep and he said I can't cancel or port my number until my contract ends or it is considered an early termination and I will be charged $100. From what I read on another post here, if I port my number after June 6 it'll cancel the request to cancel and I have to play for an extra month's of service. Regardless either way I have to pay something just to retain my number. Sounds kind of ludicrous by Telus and was wondering if anyone has any experience porting from Telus to Koodo without any extra fees charged. Thanks.

Uh... wrong. Porting a # out is an automatic cancelation - the old carrier will then charge any cancellation fees (if applicable) to you. If your contract is over/on MTM, then all you're paying out is a month's service.

Hi Peter, If I read well, and if your Billing cycle with Telus ends on the 11th, then once your contract is up on the 6th, call Koodo to do a port request or do it on the Self Serve account under change number, when Koodo notifies Telus of the request, they should set up your cancellation for the end of the Billing cycle, so that will be the 11th...I do not see why they will charge you an extra month, what is your province?

Well haven't talked to another Telus rep today, June 6, where my contract ends. If I were to choose to move my number tomorrow June 7 to June 11 (when my billing ends), I will not be penalized with any fees with porting my existing mobile number to Koodo and I can request to cancel my contract altogether.

Porting out will likely cancel your telus service for you.

You did the right thing. My team does this all the time - get a new/random phone # and advise the client to come back when their term is finished with their old carrier. Then we call channel support and have them port it for us. Done.

If I port my number today, does the cancellation of my old account occur as of today? Or, does it take a day or two for the prior account to be closed officially?

Your line is cancelled as soon as the old provider receives the request and verifies the information. Your account will also be cancelled at that time if there are no other lines on the account.
