My parents are cancelling the landline they've had for 40years and I'd like to port that number over to my new Koodo phone just to keep that number "in the family"

The problem is that the landline number is registered to my father and my Koodo plan is under my name.

Will it be possible to port given that the names for each line are different? Can this be done online?

It would still be possible, yes, but doing this means you would lose your phone #. Are you sure you don't want to port it to another line under your account?

Or to an inexpensive VoIP service, allowing you many options with the number, including sharing it amongst various family members.

Some things that you do have to keep in mind when porting a landline

1) The line has to be active - ie. not cancelled or suspended - we cannot port a line that is not active

2) Since it is a landline the process will take 3 business days, during this time you will experience mixed service (ie. able to receive on one line and able to call on another). (cell to cell usually takes between 30 min to 3 hrs)

An idea might be that you create another line to port that number to....then you would still receive regular service on your cell while waiting, and then once the port is complete you cancel your original line.
