Portable Wifi Hotspot/USB Tethering Help

Hello,

So I finally switch over to Koodo Mobile from Telus. I am so excited to use my phone and everything worked until I tried to use portable wifi hotspot and USB tethering. As usual, I did put in the information for Koodo APN. My galaxy note 3 can connect to the internet and all of that. But the problem starts when I try to hotspot it, my Macbook Pro, iPad, and Blackberry can connect to the hotspot. However, when I try to go online the internet does not work. On the galaxy note 3 there is internet but there seems to be no internet being shared.

Contacted Koodo, Telus, and Samsung Tech Support and they all have no idea what the fix is. Anyone have any suggestions? I entered the APN correctly. Oh is there anyway to delete the default Telus APN? I tried but they keeps reappearing.

Hi Erwin,

That is strange! Koodo does not put any restrictions on tethering afaik. I'm surprised Koodo support doesn't have the answer either, but there are some knowledgeable people here. If you don't get any replies by tomorrow, I'll flag your post hoping for a guru to chime in :)

Just purchased an international note 3. Will sell ph now if wifi hotspot issue is not fixed! Tried getting help through Samsung but they always say that they have never heard of this issue. Thousands of Samsung ph owners (worldwide) are angry...just look at all of Android forums. A $750 ph that can't connect to the internet? A Will Koodo/Telus help?

Koodo/Telus has nothing to do with wifi hotspots when set up in your phone...especially when the phone isn't even Koodo's to begin with. If the mobile data works fine when just using the phone, that's as far as Koodo tech will be able to go.

Hey Erwin did your Hotspot work fine when you were using the phone on Telus?
Search Note 2 Hotspot issue here and you may find your solution as I remember someone with a Hotspot issue with an international version of the Note 2 and she posted how she solved it on the tread. If you find it let us know here if you could, thanks.

Hey Paul thanks for the advice but the posts I've seen was created a year ago and still not answered. I got the note 3 unlocked from telus. What's weird was that the default telus apn removes itself when I inserted my bell sim card and the bell apn automatically showed up, I didn't have to type it in and data works right away. When I insert my koodo sim, the default telus apn showed up and I have to re enter the koodo apn. Mobile hotspot still don't work with koodo. Super sad. I may have to use a bell or virgin sim from now on to use mobile hotspot.

*#272*IMEI#* then choose Koodo. It will reset your phone to factory settings, so back up your data. If Koodo is not available, post your APN here.

Exactly. Wifi hotspot issue still not solved. Usb via Easy Teather seems to be the best alternative.

Samsung and Mac do not play nice together via USB. If you install Samsung Kies, you will probably break your USB connection to the phone entirely.

I am typing this on an iMac tethered to Samsung Note II via wifi.

On the phone go to settings => More networks => Tethering and Mobile hotspot. Turn on mobile hotspot. Tap on mobile hotspot area again, will bring up menu and instructions listing your Galaxy_Note_xxx device as a hotspot and give you the password to use to sign on.

On the mac side, turn on wifi and sign in with the password the Note provided.

No usb, but works like a charm over wifi. Your battery had better be well charged though.

Never had problems with a S3, S5, iPhone, etc. Different Techs have been unable to diagnose and fix this problem with a Note 3.

Is the USB component that critical if it works under wifi?

All the Samsung documentation seems to claim it works fine using Windows, but no real mention of mac.

Frequently use Wifi hotspot in locations where Internet access is not available except through phone data plan.

This question is answered in another thread, here: https://community.koodomobile.com/koo.... The short answer is to add "dun" to the list of APN types in your mobile phone settings.
