on the htc one v, the back panel of the phone is part of the antenna. if this is not making solid contact the signal quality will be terrible. I don't understand why HTC likes designing phones this way. There is no reason to ever disconnect the antenna from a cellphone, so why make a piece that is designed to be removed disconnect the antenna?

This is a known issue with the HTC One V. Like Timo said the antenna happens to be on the bottom panel and try not to block this part when holding the phone during a call might help a bit.
