When i upgrade my phone online, once i confirm purchase will my current phone be unusable. when the new phone arrives is it already to use . i will be switching from my old phone having a regular sim to my new phone having a nano sim, so i would not be able to just switch sims. wondering how this works..... do not see any where to add a plan, so i assume the new phone arrives with my current plan ???/

You can still use your phone. The new phone will come with a sim and when you change the sim on self serve it will transfer your number to the new sim card.
i dont see anywhere on self serve to do anything with a sim card

In self serve you choose the phone tab and then there you will choose to swap phones/SIM and it will ask for the new SIM number, just input the number on the back of the new SIM Card and submit and then pop it into the new phone and away you go. Easy as that.
Once you do this the old SIM Card will be usable by you for the same account (not use able on any other account ever) if you choose to switch back to the old phone for 90 days then it becomes useless and can be disposed of.

Also, if your new phone uses same size SIM, then take a sim from your current phone and put it into a new one.
it says right in my question that the sim sizes are different. ..... there is no option to do that in my self serve. there is view bill. view usage. view tab balance.view rate plan..... nothing to do with a sim

I guess I didn't read all the detail since I was at TTC when I made comment this.

You will need to call Koodo to switch sim card. They are suspending this service right now.  There won't be charge for this call.
