Good Morning, yesterday I was listening to music on my iPhone and had no other apps open, when suddenly my phone just shut down. Black screened and I couldn't get it to turn back on. I left it alone till the end of the work day (had no charger with me and the phone was at 96% when it shut down so it didn't need to be charged).

When I got home from work, I tried various methods to turn it on, pressing home screen, doing a shut down, plugging it in and letting it charge then trying to turn it on again, pressing home button and side button for a hard restart, using itunes to force it to turn on) nothing worked. I tried everything the apple support site suggested.

Left it over night and when I woke up this morning I tried to turn it on again and the apple logo came up on a white screen (YAY) but as soon as the apple logo came up, the whole screen faded to a dirty blue jean color with three white squiggly lines at the top of the screen and then it faded to black and quit again.

This is a new phone (4 months old) it hasn't been dropped, run over, gone for a swim or anything that would have precluded it not working. It just suddenly stopped while I was listening to music and died.

How do I proceed?

Is this a Koodoo issue, or an apple care issue?

You should call Koodo if you ahve another phone to use at:

Dial 1-866-99-KOODO (1-866-995-6636).

Hours of operation (local time):

  • Monday − Friday: 9am - 9pm
  • Saturday: 9am - 7pm
  • Sunday: 9am - 7pm
If you are not able to call, go to a Koodo store/kiosk  to begin the warranty procedure. It should be covered then if nothing has yet to have happen to it like even a drop. Definitely sounds like it should be covered.

Just a heads up Lauren, Koodo doesn't give iPhone loaners nor do they send iPhones for repair. You will need to visit an Apple Store or contact Apple customer service.

BTW when did you purchase your iPhone?

The Koodo page on iphone warranty states that Koodo should still be contacted first to faciliate applecare warranty repairs/replacements with apple.

Yeah I would just go to the Apple store is there is one in your city. Koodo will direct you there anyways.  If there is no apple store then they can send it in or have you contact Apple to get warranty support

Just to confirm, Koodo should be contacted first to troubleshoot an issue before sending the phone off to repair.  In this case, since the phone is just not turning on and we can't troubleshoot this particular issue, contacting apple for a service request is your option https://getsupport.apple.com/
