Over minutes - same day change to plan with more minutes

I was pretty upset by realizing I went over my minutes today - $70 worth. For some reason I thought I got text notifications like with data. I've never gone over before. I realized I very much need more minutes (also the free calling after five and not seven). So I switched plans today.... when it confirmed the page said for dec 11 (today) -1 credit for the old plan and +1.33 charge for the new plan. Since I've paid for the new plan today, $1.33 for the day ($40 a month plan) versus the $1 today for my old $30 plan, shouldn't today's overages not count and instead count towards the minutes in my new plan? Since I paid today for the new plan?

Sorry for the long question
Thanks for any insight!

What happens - and this is a really terrible policy, if you ask me - is that Koodo with prorate both plans for that month.

so, if you had a 500 mins plan and used 500 mins and switched to unlimited mid-month, they'll say you only had the right to use 250 mins if your first plan, because only half the month passed, and they'll charge you overage for 250 mins.

Oh so I'm only going to get 1/30th from my new plan and lose the 1/30th of my last plan. You're right awful policy and doesn't help :(

I did however switch to a plan that has after 5pm free calling where my old was after 7.... About $30 of my overages would be gone if that took affect today since it's a daily thing? Does that make sense at all? Thanks for your answer!

try giving *611 a call to see if maybe you can get them to take away some of the overages.

someone mentioned in an older thread that a solution to running out of minutes mid-month is to buy an unlimited add-on for that month, as it cheaper that getting dinged for the overages.  It was suggested also that the add on would be prorated as well.

Yes and I checked this morning and Koodo automatically applied the after 5pm for yesterday so my overage is now only in the $30 range. Thanks so much for your help.

I ended up calling today because they charged me te $40 for all of last month plus the charges and she said since I proactively switched my plan that day to avoid future charges she was going to get rid of them for me. I'm am a pretty happy customer right now lol :)
