Online phone upgrade problem

Plugged my current SIM card into a new unlocked phone (not purchased from Koodo). The switch works perfectly - new phone is working with the old SIM.
Now I want to register the change of phone on the Koodo website. I go to "Upgrade phone". In order to do this, the Koodo website asks for the "new" SIM card number, but the SIM card isn't changing, just the phone. So I enter the current SIM card number and the website delivers an error message saying that the SIM number is already in use.

You don't need to change any of that stuff unless you are changing the physical sim card.
If it's the same size, just pop it into your new phone and enjoy.
Nothing else needed!~

But my account online now shows the wrong phone. I may not have to change it for it to work (clearly), but I want the correct phone registered. Also, I want to give the old phone to someone else to use on the Koodo network, but it is registered as being used by me.

At some point the system will update the phone information all by itself.

As long as you do not report the old phone as lost or stolen, there is no problem to give to to someone else.

The information will update even though I didn't buy the phone through Koodo? How do they find out the phone information? About how long should this process take?

In the Self serve change phone section. You only  need to add your phone imei number.
Dont change SIM at all.

Tried that... in a few different ways.

First, for the question "Does the new phone you're upgrading to use a SIM card?", I answered "Yes" and then put the IMEI number in the box labeled "New SIM Card Number". I got an invalid number error.

Then, I tried answering "No" to the question "Does the new phone you're upgrading to use a SIM card?" Then I put the IMEI number in the box labeled "New ESN/MEID Number". I got an invalid number error that way too.

Finally, I went back to answering "Yes" to the question "Does the new phone you're upgrading to use a SIM card?" But this time, I left the box labeled "New SIM Card Number" empty. And I, yet again, got an invalid number error.

You seriously don't need to do any of this.
You can give the phone to your friend.
It doesn't effect anything.
As long as you're not changing the sim, Koodo doesn't need to know what phone you're using the sim in.
