Yes, you can buy a new phone and keep your number and plan, Kate. Which phone did you have in mind?

If your SIM Card is the same size as the one the new phone takes you can simple take the SIM Card out of your old phone and pop it in the new one and away you go. If it's a different size then simply get the new one that you will purchase with your new phone and log into your self serve account online and activate the new SIM Card then pop it in the new phone and away you go with the same plan and phone number and everything just a new phone

Moto G4 Play works with MicroSIM (I know because I just grabbed this phone on Koodo recently). There's a better chance that OP is using a microSIM than a nano SIM unless OP already had a 2016 phone.

If you're doing an upgrade, you can keep your base plan (as long as it's at least $28 per month) and add the $10 per month for tab small. On a cheaper plan, you'd likely have to pay the $240 upfront. It's $200 retail @Virgin Mobile and $2 to unlock on eBay.

If you're looking at new activation promos, then your number would have to be with another carrier (port from Koodo to another provider), then do a new activation and port back in, and you certainly would lose your grandfathered plan.

@Lloyd Willett: Motorola phones are $1.50 to $3.50 for unlock codes on eBay. LG's are a little bit more ($3 to $5), and Samsungs are $7.50 to $12 for codes.

I've bought many unlock codes (shall I say a plethora of unlock codes?) on eBay and they've worked 100% of the time. Check the seller's ratings.
