I recently moved from Vancouver to Victoria.  I was told by the Koodo store that my number would become a local Victoria number when I moved, but have since learned that isn't true, and I have to change my number.  When I do, will the old number have some sort of redirect message on it, like "the number has been changed, the new number is ..."?  I have given this number out extensively based on advice from Koodo that it would be a Victoria number, and it will take some time to let everyone know it has been changed.

Why do you have to change your number?

There isnt a redirect message when you change numbers.

Because anyone calling me in Victoria is now calling a Vancouver number, which is long distance.

Ok i see what you mean now. The part where the Koodo rep told you that your number would just become a local Victoria number had me confused.

My suggestion: port your current number to a VoIP service, so you retain it, and get a new number and plan from Koodo. You can then forward your current number (now on a VoIP service) to your new number.

OR

Get a VoIP number in Victoria, and call forward it to your current number.

Either way, it would be a $5 to $10 (or less) monthly  option to have the ability for old friends and new to call you.
