Note 2 - Phone calls wont go through - right to voicemail

My Galaxy Note 2 has a problem recieving calls. Quite often the phone doesn't ring and it goes right to voicemail. For instance, my wife tried about 30 times over an hour tonight to reach me, and the calls went to voicemail, after silence for a while. It never rang once at my end. This has been happening a lot when people call me. I have heard that this might be an issue with voice over LTE, and am not sure if this is the problem (might only be with US Carriers and not here in Canada). If that is the case, I am not sure how to disable it. Any suggestions/solutions?

This is starting to sound maybe needlessly complicated... voice over LTE???

Does this happen if I were to just call you at (xxx) xxx-xxxx or is an issue with a voice over internet deal?

Make sure you don't have Samsung's blocking mode on that blocks calls all the time or at a specified time which would send calls directly to voicemail, it's basically like apples do not disturb feature on their iPhones.

Voice over LTE isn't in use yet in Canada as far as I know.

I have this problem with my note2 and have been sent 2 replacements that both do the same thing, I think we have to come out and admit this phone is not good I was guaranteed by the first rep that the replacement would not do this or I would get full credit back on my tab. this did not happen. when I bought the phone I was at a positive tab so just putting my tab to 0 was not fair so the sent me another one and it does the same.

Didn't catch your comment about Tab the first time I read this. If your phone was under warranty, then by all means a replacement should have at Ø cost to you.

Did they ship you a new SIM with each of those phones? or did they tell you to use the old one?

And how is your signal strength:

First make sure that Airplane and Blocking Mode are off. Sounds basic, but if I put my phone into my pocket in a certain way without turning off the screen, the contact with body heat is enough to produce a touch on the screen. Once or twice pulled out the phone to find it’s muted.

Also noted that if I am calling Koodo to Koodo, I have to list the prefix 1 before the area code in my contact numbers or else sometimes the call will not complete. We forget that “free” long distance doesn’t mean we don’t have to dial it in the conventional way.

or something similar. Gives fairly instanteneous readings for voice and data in -dBm units. As long as you show less than 100 -dBm, you should be able to communicate. If you can send yourself a text and receive it promptly, then the network connection is working.

Even in areas that have good coverage, it’s not uncommon to have dead zones. Stay away from large metallic objects such as wrought iron railings and open any metallic window blinds.

Had a local problem with trees galore at home in a rural area and was able to find a “hot spot” where everything works.

There are sister apps that will do the same for WiFi coverage as well.

There is also some jerk who posted a Youtube video on how to short the antenna contacts to increase your signal strength.

People just ended up with a shorted phone with no signal strength and no warranty

WHOA! The "voice over LTE" just rang a bell.

VoIP originated calls are sometimes delayed several seconds because they go from voice => internet => voice => central switching => handoff to cell => roaming => to your last reported gps tower. All this while the sender's phone is ringing. I suspect that the incoming bits include a value for how long we've been trying to connect, so you may only get one (or less) rings. Going in the other direction, there are a few less hops so connection may be fine, leading you to believe that VoIP is not at fault.

Numerous complaints on VoIP boards about dumping to voicemail after a very few rings.

I have VoIP for landline. If I want my calls successfully forwarded, I have to tell system to ring for 30+ seconds or more on the VoIP settings, and I am lucky to hear 3 rings on the cel. Getting a standard landline, a VoIP and cell the ring simultaneously will show you that the rings don't start at the same time at all. They are very connection-dependent.

There is apparently NO cure for this, unless you can use more advanced call forwarding strategies.

How does your phone do on cell-to-cell or standard landline-to-cell ?

It doesn't work at all when this happens I can call my phone with my girlfriends phone who is on Koodo alsoor I have a work phone with Bell andd it will not go through either

Bell and Koodo use the same physical network, so it can't be a reception issue. Try the following:

Settings=>More networks=>Mobile networks=>Network operators (it may take some time to scan all available networks)=>Choose “Select automatically”

Re-start the phone, preferably by removing the battery for a few minutes.

What happens with texts: girlfriend's Koodo=>Note II vs Note II=>girlfriend.

If you have trouble sending texts to yourself, then there could be a problem with the phone's radio.

Yes this is how I get it to work send myself a text and after a minute or so it will come and usually accept calls again

Call Koodo tech and tell them that phone is falling asleep at the switch. Calls falling straight to voicemail or phone only waking up after several rings.

Sending self a text wakes it up for a while.

My note 2 does this sometimes. I was told to pull out the battery for a couple minutes and it should be OK again..... For a while it is.... And then....

Not much of a phone if you have to keep popping open the back and playing with the battery. That would be an acceptable fix one or two times, but not on an ongoing basis.

Mine seems OK, but I don't get enough of an incoming call volume to hear complaints (if any).

What software version are the "problem" phones running?

I got my phone back I am still having the same problems with it also has some small scratches now :(

I did more testing with wifi off and I still miss calls sorry its hard to tell what works and doesn't be cause the problem is intermittent

I have been video taping the problem to prove my point that there is something going wrong with the note 2

I think someone from Samsung needs to look at the cell radio driver I think its crashing and when you phone out again it resets the driver that's why it takes good 10-15 sec to call out and then works for while again

I could be completely wrong

My loner Samsung S3 phone never missed a call once while I had it

I dropped my phone off again to day got another S3
witch seems to be working correctly.

I don't have much hopes that my phone will be fixed.

If they don't have it fixed by 3rd time I am returning charger phone box and all cables to the store and filing a complaint to http://www.ccts-cprst.ca/
and of course telling them don't send me a bill cause If you can't honor your side of the contract why should I.

I also plan to video tape the drop off maybe Ill buy a Lennon to place on the counter with my phone.

I really hope they can find a fix I love everything about the phone accept the miss calls and delayed texts there has to be a way to fix the problem

I have a good case and MHL to HDMI adapter so I can watch videos on my tv
will really suck having to get new case and accessories again.

I received my samsung galaxy note 2 back yesterday it is still missing calls and delayed texts.

The loner samsung galaxy s3 worked flawlessly when I had it

When I was at the store they told me that they did a factory reset and that's it
same as the first time.

when I suggested that they need to find a way to get Samsung to update the phone to fix the problem they said there will be no more updates for your phone because the phone is end of life.

My phone is only 7 months old why should I keep paying for a broken phone for 2 years when it doesn't work properly plus I have been living with the problem for the past 3 months

I have been trying an app called Signal Guard that claims to keep the cell phone connected and it lists the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in the list of phones that it helps some users say the free version is a trial but if it works Ill gladly buy it.

so far the phone has been working all day I have called it good 8-12 times and it worked also koodo engineering said they would
be looking in to problem when I called this morning so it maybe that koodo fixed the problem on there end some how but they where never able to fix it be for.

I'll be keeping an eye on my phone tomorrow I'll turn off the Signal Guard app see it problem comes back or not

also if anyone else wants to try the Signal Guard app and report the results that would be good.

I have received another phone from Samsung and so far 3 days later it is still working fine, only took 10 tries I hope this is it as my warranty expires in 2 weeks, signal guard did help a bit with the last phone

same here Signal Guard app helped seemed to reconnect to the cell tower once I wake the phone up but when it's sleeping after few hours same problem

maybe I'll get lucky and my phone will get fixed/replaced when I send it in again
