not receiving texts from iphones

Can anybody help? I have read all the related posts and none seem to be the same situation as what I've got.

I purchased a new phone (MAXWEST Astro 3.5) for the sole purpose of having a phone #/presence in BC so that new/prospective/current clients can reach me. Brand new phone...brand new number. It will not receive texts from an iphone if the iphone is using iMessage. If the iphone uses SMS, I can receive the texts.....otherwise, I never see them/don't know that they have been sent. I can send text messages to an iphone and it is received.

Telling my contacts to turn off iMessage is not a workable solution as the purpose of this phone and # is to have new/prospective clients contact me. I can't tell them to turn off iMessage...and if I don't get their messages and don't respond, it sends a bad message about my responsiveness.

Anyone with any suggestions other than cancelling the koodoo account and finding a provider that works?

My apologies if this is posted twice.

Did you have an iPhone in the past, perhaps? I'm wondering if the iPhones of your contacts somehow assume you are using iMessage. Try this link to deregister your phone from iMessage, just in case...

Since you're not using an iPhone, they won't be able to contact you using iMessage.  Only Apple devices can send/receive iMessage.  They have to turn off iMessage where they have you as a contact.  It is the only option.

Hope that helps!

This is patently false, @Jru. I, and millions of others, have no problem connecting to contacts who do not have iPhones when I use Messages. However, I have not switched operating systems. Messages sends and receives SMS to contacts without iPhones, and Messages between contacts with iOS devices. The issue most often arises when a user switches from an iPhone, or other iOS device to another OS, without de-registering the iOS device first.

Just want to add that if your phone number is registered in apples imessage system, moving your number to a different provider will not make any difference whatsoever. You need to deregister it from imessage, as Sophia suggested above.

From a business perspective a text message is one of the worst means to make initial contact. Have you considered more substantive means of contact?
