Did you make sure that you had the following add-ons while you were in Cuba?

-International Voice Roaming
-International Data Roaming (only if u want data to work)

If you don't at least add the international voice roaming add-on, your phone won't work.

No they are free add-ons. They just need to be on your account in order to roam internationally.

Hi there! Ahmad is perfectly right. Without a special add-on, in order to be able to place/receive calls and send/receive text messages while in Cuba, you will need first to enable the free International Voice Roaming add-on.

Please allow me to explain how you can activate this add-on directly from your Self-Serve profile, on your time, whenever you want. All you need to do is login on your Self-Serve account, http://koo.do/1bGO5RG, and follow these steps:
- click on the "Phone Services” tab
- click on "Add-ons"
- you will have a list with all the available features
- select the “International Voice Roaming” and click on Add;
- click "Confirm" (at the bottom of the page)

If you want to use data, you will need also the International Data Roaming add-on.

I think it’s very important for you to know that without an add-on, if you are using your phone in Cuba, the following pay-per-use rates will apply:
- Voice: $2.50/minute (incoming and outgoing calls);
- Text Messaging: $5/100 outgoing text messages (free incoming text);
- Data: $10/MB

The great news is that we have specific add-ons for the Caribbean, including Cuba. For additional information and in order to save your time, I am providing you with a very useful link: http://koo.do/Im7Mcg.

As you can see, you have two options:

1.    Get a Caribbean text add-on for only $15, which will provide you with 75 outgoing messages (the incoming text are free). Any additional text message will be charged with $0.60.

2.    Get a Caribbean Combo add-on for only $40, which will provide you with 50 anytime minutes, 50 outgoing messages (the incoming text are free) and 50MB of data. Any additional minute will be charged with $1, any additional text message will be charged with $0.60 and any additional MB will be charged with $1.

These add-ons are good for 30 days and include calls and text messages to/from anywhere in the world. Kindly note that text messaging is limited to SMS only and does not include MMS or videos, since for MMS/Video, data is required.

Hope you have found this information helpful.

Thanks and have a nice trip!

Follow Ahmad's procedure above or the minute you leave Canada or the US, you will have no service at all.

It's a safeguard for consumers, since there can be no roaming unless you proactively turn it on yourself. No $urprise$.

This issue has been highlighted a few times here when folks travelling to Europe or other places you would normally expect to have service suddenly find they have no connection.
