Nexus 4 woes

I have had my Nexus 4 for eight months and over the last two or so months I have had issues with gmail and wifi on my phone. It is not rooted and currently is running 4.4.2 with Aviate Launcher.

My first issue, regarding email is that I never have an automatic sync happen. I've tried turning it on manually and this works for maybe five minutes before it is shut off again. Secondly, my phone will randomly shut wifi off without any warning. I have almost used all of my data already this month because of this and am not pleased.

If anyone in the community has suggestions or answers for me they'd be greatly appreciated!

I am thinking two things...

Your background data is shut off. That would explain why you've never been pushed an email.

Your wifi sleep policy is set to turn off wifi when the screen is off.

Have you tried a factory reset?

Aviate is a launcher that learns from you. Is it possible you've trained it to toggle your wifi somehow? Maybe clearing Aviate's data and cache might help.
