Nexus 5 won't charge unless powered down

My phone has had no issues whatsoever, but today my phone decided it would only charge when it is powered down. I first noticed when I was plugged into my PC, so I checked that my USB setting was 'charge' as we'd uses the MTP setting over the weekend. Set it back to charge from MTP and still no power. I tried to charge my phone in the car, on my PC and now in the power port and nothing. But when I shut down my phone it charges fine. Can someone please help?

Goto settings...battery...you may have some apps that are so active they are draining your battery faster than it can charge. These apps should be disabled or alternatives should be found for them if possible.Keep in mind a PC charge is much slower than a plug in charge generally speaking.

Try to use the charger that came with your device or grab yourself a good 2.1amp charger from a convenience store or even amazon

I checked, nothing out of the ordinary (have not loaded any new apps since last week), deleted a few apps and cleared my cache while I was in there. Still won't charge unless it's switched off :(

Thanks, I will take a look at the apps once I can switch it on. I have always charged my phone on my laptop during the day (can't reach outlets in my office) and then using the original wall charger in the evenings and never had this issue :(

Hey Bethany,

I've found a link: http://koo.do/20JsWsA that you you might find useful. You can try some of the steps to improve the battery life. A factory reset should also fix the problem but should be considered as last resort (Make sure you back up your device before you try that).
