Nexus 5 - Lollipop Rollout?

Good evening,

I just purchased a Nexus 5 today at a local Koodo, and I was under the impression that 5.0 lollipop was available for these phones. After discussing it with the local representative, she assured me that I would be able to update my phone to 5.0. When I go to "About Phone - Check for updates" It says everything it up to date with Kitkat 4.4.4.

What gives?

Lollipop will be delivered to most mobile providers (the big three and their subsidiaries), the release will be staggered and there is no definite date as to when the OS upgrade will be available on Koodo. Please be patient and check your device periodically for updates. It will likely be big news here as well, so check back here too.

So was the representative back at the Koodo office wrong when they said I could upgrade my phone? Or were they misinformed?

You can upgrade your phone but not until the staggered rollout reaches you.

You can force it but to do so, you'd need to head over tp the XDA forums to learn what's required and the step by steps.

@Warran - No, the rep said you would be able to update the phone to Lollipop, so far that is true. Did you ask if that meant today? Or did you simply assume that the phone would upgrade to Lollipop after leaving the store?

I have the nexus 5 and received my 5.0 update maybe three weeks ago. Try a factory reset. But it is true that the update is staggered. They didn't lie nor were they misinformed. The update is absolutely available to you and you will get the update. You'd have to be psychic to know the exact day that will happen. You can download the apk. But if you're not knowledgeable in doing that, I'd just wait. The update isn't that big of a deal. It looks a smidge different and has some tiny perks like a built in flashlight app accessible from the notification pulldown area. But there are some bugs that I don't appreciate. A lot of things randomly force close while I'm using them. This is a confirmed bug. Just wait. I wish I didn't select the update to be honest. It's not horrible. I just feel it's not worth it. 5.0.1 will hopefully sort it all out and I'm waiting for that one.

They said I would be able to upgrade today after my phone was finished porting......

Do we have an ETA on the Staggered Rollout?

Then in that case, the rep was misinformed. Telus appears to have the Lollipop 5.0.1 upgrade, so it's only a matter of time until Koodo receives the upgrade.

We were told last Thursday that it's a staggered release and all Koodo customers are expected to receive update notification within 10 days.

Update: 5.0.1 only started this Monday for the Nexus 5. The rollout should be complete by Christmas

Yes, I'm still waiting for either 5.0 or 5.0.1. Though to be honest I might bypass those 2 and wait for 5.1 to be released. I have seen Nexus 5's on both Koodo and Telus that had 5.0.1 on them, and all but 1 person said it was an OTA Update (the other did a factory image, whatever that means)

If you don't want to wait and you don't mind a factory reset type update (where all your data is lost), you can search the XDA forums and find instructions to download the update to a PC and install the update your self instead of waiting for your phones turn OTA (Over The Air).

It's really in Google's hands now for the OTA rollout. As far as I know you SHOULD have had it by yesterday. Perhaps Google caught a bug and postponed it? Idk.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade as the 5 update is messing peoples phones up. I've heard of problems with the dialer and camera. Tread lightly

That's bang on, and that's also why carriers don't always launch updates as soon as they are available. A lot of times they will test them, and sometimes pass on them if they aren't stable.

Yesterday night I received the much awaited Android's new update 5.0.1. FYI I didn't do anything yesterday evening around 8:00 PM i got the notification there is new update available.

Just my personal opinion- I don't like the new version at all list goes on and on... menu screen background and home page Google bar is freaking white color gives a lot of glare, few animations changed. The most F part is they have removed the native Email app, now you have to use gmail for accessing your emails like Exchange account or you 3rd party, seriously every one don't like using Gmail app.
