How to enter Stock Recovery Mode for Nexus 5:

Stock Recovery Mode can be booted only with stock Android OS, it offers a limited array of options such as: apply update from ADB, wipe data/ factory reset, wipe cache partition and reboot system. Here’s how to boot recovery:
power off the phone completely.
press and hold Volume Down, Volume UP and Power buttons all at the same time.
– don’t release the buttons.
release the buttons only when the Fastboot / Bootloader Mode options appear.
– a START text is listed at the upper part of your device’s screen,
use the Volume buttons to change START to Recovery Mode option.
press the Power button to select Recovery Mode.
– after that you will see an Android robot tilted and showing a red warning sign.
now, you need to press and hold POWER, and then press once the Volume Up button.
the Stock Recovery Mode options will now appear on your device.
That’s how you successfully boot Nexus 5 Stock Recovery Mode.

For anyone else that had this issue - this is how I fixed mine:
1. Remove back cover
2. Remove the 6 screws at the top
3. Remove camera/battery connector cover
4. Plug into mains and do not remove from mains
5. Disconnect battery connector and look at screen - you should see a battery symbol
6. Reconnect battery connector and look at screen - you should see it charging
7. If you don't see battery symbol -
Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you see the battery symbol
 8. Reassemble phone while it is charging
9. Wait at least 1 hour (I didn't try before this) and turn the phone on.
If your phone doesn't turn on then disconnect/reconnect the battery and try again but try to turn on with volume down + up + power button held for 10 seconds.

Hi Abouza,

Thank you for your suggestion. Just keep in mind that if this is done, your manufacturers warranty will not cover any damage that has been done for personally fixing the phone internally.
