New tab and extra cost, time to leave Koodo!

The only reason I was lured to Koodo was the OLD tab.  I was totally unaware they were updating it.  I upgraded my wife's and two daughters phones last year.  Mine is starting to fall apart and today I went to upgrade and was horrifically surprised by the new tab and extra costs.  I tried for the same phone my daughters got one year ago and was told I had to pay up front an extra $169 PLUS an extra tab fee ON TOP of my plan fee, PLUS I am forced to take a higher plan!!!  Their phones cost 0$ up front and totally went on their tab and it was the 10%/month.
How the heck can this possibly be better than the old plan for anyone but Koodo?  Is there any chance the old plan will come back or shall I go shopping at the other carriers since its basically a 2 year lock in now?   Extremely unhappy 4 year customer!

You're more than welcome to keep your plan when you grade your phone; that part the rep was misinformed about and it seems many are. However, everything else is right. You're essentially just getting a 0% interest loan when you get a phone that you slowly repay within 24 months. It sucks but this is the direction Koodo wants to head in

and to clarify,   you can pay off the Tab at any time,  you are not locked in for 2 years.

Very curious about something here, David C go onto Fido's Web page and check out there offerings for plans and phones ect and then come back here and tell me who's offerings are better and why, it would be greatly appreciated. I've linked below to Fido's Web pages for you as well.

I am not sure I like the look of Fido either, I want the same old phone my girls got for 0$ that they got a YEAR ago and I want their plan, I pay for 4 lines,  I do not want to pay a tab fee as I very much liked the 10-15% subsidy which they are still on thankfully.  This change impacts certain people far more than they realize its not a happy one size fits all as they may think.  I will end up paying FAR more for an old phone on a new plan which bundles more things than I need.  I apparently am caught in some trap where if I upgrade my phone I MUST get a new plan to get data which I did not have in the past.  This space is becoming more and more like cable where things get bundled that you don't want or need.

Nope your apparently is wrong. if you want data now, of course you'll have to change your plan. There is no data add-on and any ones that existed years earlier would make your plan more expensive than if you just changed it. You can also upgrade and keep your plan if you want. No one is forcing you to do anything. If their plan doesn't exist anymore, you can't get it and its unreasonable of you to expect that.

As Ahmad said. You can keep your old plan and just add the phone on your plan. You can put up to 360$ on your tab which is divided by 24 months that you add to whichever plan that you choose. You also have the flexibility of choosing the amount that you want to put on your tab. Ex: You choose a Galaxy S III which is worth 168$. You can decide to pay 48$ and put 120$ on tab, so 120/24= 6$/month that you add to your plan to pay the phone. The Tab changed, but you have no restraint as far as the plans go. Keep the same plan if it's what's best for your needs or go with a new plan.
