Brand new to Koodo just activated my account but phone has been saying emergency calls for for over 2 hours. We live in 2018... how long does it take to register the phone service???

Did you bring your own phone or did you get a new one from Koodo?  If you brought your own phone, are you sure that it's (1) compatible with the Telus network, and (2) either network unlocked or locked to Telus/Koodo/Public Mobile?

Is it prepaid? That is usually activated instantly. Reboot your phone, that will probably trigger the activation.

To add to the other suggestions, you can also try removing and reinsert the Sim.

It's a Koodo phone on monthly/postpaid. I'm well aware of the reboot/reinsert and tried those dozens of times. Waited an hour with support and had to troubleshoot with engineering to determine something happened with my activation and required backend escalation. Finally got service this morning, but I'm not impressed with the poor activation experience, seems like this has happened periodically with others on the forum.

Good thing you are past the activation stage now

@astroboi I'm pretty sure you'll see stuff like this on other provider's communities as well.  Glitches happen.  There's no such thing as bug-free software, and it's various software systems that power the activation processes and various back-end systems.  There are going to be glitches, with any provider.

That's a fair remark, but let's be clear that any other system glitch is very different from the initial activation. I've activated no less than 20 different plans/phones going back to TDMA/CDMA/GSM days and I've never had to wait more than one hour for service.

To use another analogy, having the occasional error and outage with an email service or social media platform is acceptable, but needing to wait more than a day to use a new email/social media service in 2018 is just laughable.
