Network Issues after iOS 10 update on iphone 5s

I bought a new iphone 5s on Sept 2nd. My texting and phone calls worked fine until I updated to iOS 10. Ever since then, every few hours it seems that the network freezes(it will stay stuck on 1 bar even if I am in an area where I should have full) and I cannot send a msg no matter where I go. Once I put on airplane mode for a second and then shut it off, I am able to receive and send again. But it is only a temporary solution. Has anyone else had this issue since the update, and is there any way to permanently fix the issue? Apple says my phone is totally fine even though this started immediatley after I updates.

Have you tried resetting your phones' network settings, Brittany? Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords. Let us know if this resolves the problem.

yes that it was the first thing I did and it worked for 24 hours then froze again. Nothing seemed to fix the problem to I ended up exchanging it for an android which doesn't have the problem
