1. Turn your phone off and then turn it back on, is it reading the sim card?

Yes? Great! :D

No? Follow these steps;

turn the phone off - Take a paperclip, or the Sim-Eject tool that came with your iphone(Usually a paperclip is easier to find) and push it into the little hole on the right hand side of your device. The Sim tray should pop out. Take note of which way the sim card is placed in this tray.

Take the sim card out of the tray and rub the metal with your finger, or with a paper towel. Put the sim card back into the Sim card tray, and push the tray back into the phone. Turn the phone back on.

Is the phone reading the sim card?

Yes? Great! :D

No? It might be time for a new sim card. Take your phone to the nearest Koodo shop and see if they can give you a hand! :)

To add another question to that..
Does the phone need to be off to take out the SIM card ?
If yes, is there a way to turn it off if the sleep/off button doesnt work?

The phone doesn't need to be off to remove the sim card, but for it to properly read the sim card when its put back in usually it does need a restart.

If you go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings it will restart your device. Do this after putting the simcard back into your phone. DO NOT PRESS Erase All Content and Settings, as this WILL delete everything on your phone.

This will be the only way to restart your device without the power button. There are ways to turn the phone off without the power button, but then getting it turned back on would be tricky. With this method the phone will restart itself, opposed to being turned off.

The downside? Any Wifi passwords you have saved will be deleted, so you'll have to type those back in when wanting to connect to a Wifi connection(this will only need to be done once though, because then your phone will remember the wifi passwords again :D )
