Need Data for Geolocating?

I have a Samsung J3 phone with a GPS. There is no data plan. I have installed OurPact and subscribed to the geolocating feature. What I want to know is does the phone require a data plan for the GPS to function for geolocating purposes? (in the event of a lost phone....or God forbid, a lost daughter).

In order for the phone to communicate it's location to you it need to have data. GPS location ---> internet ---> cloud ---> your PC @ home.

Without data, the phone will know where it is, but can't communicate with a server to let you know the location of the phone.

Technically GPS doesnt use data, but loading the map does.  So if you pre-download a map, then it wont use data.

If you want to locate your daughter's phone, then it requires communication which requires data that Robert mentioned above
