I have a nexus s and it had a notification to update to jelly bean but when I hit down load it said you are up to date and when I check the phone isn't updated. What I check for updates it says that my phone is up to date. How do I get jelly bean now?

Try turning off the phone, take out the SIM card, wait a minute, and put everything back together. Connect to WiFi and search again for the update.

Although to be honest, I suggest you upgrade your device. The Nexus S is aging like milk in 2014 - Jellybean will lag the phone even more with the low amount of RAM and weak processor in there.

I completely agree with Johnathan about upgrading to a new phone, but if you keep it definitely DO NOT upgrade the Nexus S to JellyBean it makes the phone almost inoperable it lags so severely. Just leave it running ICS it doesn't run that bad on that version of Android. Trust me you'll regret getting JellyBean on it I did and ended up going and getting a new phone.
