Does shorting a phone ruin the sim card?

Difficult to say. How exactly did he short the phone? The welding arc itself could be one possibility as there is a significant amount of radiation present in the arc depending on the type of welding being done, but the phone would have to be fairly close to where he was working. We'd need a little more information as to where the phone was while he was welding, the type of welding being done and include what type of phone (make and model).

Only way to check is probably put that im card in another phone to test it. If it works I'd assume the sim card would be ok. If not, well might need to get another one :).

I'd be more concerned about the phone than the $10 SIM.
