My texts are sending and being received, but I'm not receiving any from others. I'm using a Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2. I've tried using the default messaging app and Messenger for SMS, but neither are showing the replies.

My service is the Koodo Prepaid, 15$/Month Base plan.

Have you tried restarting your phone?

Restart your phone. Reseat your Sim card.

The calling and data did work before though.

What happens if you try sending a message to yourself?

IIRC, the s3 also has a built in spam filter option for sms. Check to make sure the messages aren't ending up there. (I believe you can access the spam folder by pressing the menu button while in the messaging app.)

Antoine did you use your phone for texting before without any problem or it is just first time?

I did, except it was with Sugar Mobile, and I had to use their app when texting.

Great question Jan.

This means it could be a porting issue.
Please send Koodo a private message via Facebook or twitter and they can look into your port and why you are not receiving text messages

Try installing another messaging app (ex. chomp sms, textra, etc) and see if that works

I tried, it does the same thing. It seems like my messages don't send either now.
The best theory would be that I just have bad reception (I am out of town and reception is meh), except that when calling it works perfectly.

If calling works perfectly you should not have problem with texting.

It's what I would think.

Hmm, it seems to depend on the person if they receive it or not. Some people seem to receive my texts, others no. I any case, I never receive their replies.

New development: I have tried texting 7 people. 4 of them received it, but I didn't get their reply. The others didn't receive my message and I couldn't receive their texts either.
Those four people who received my texts are all with Rogers, and the others are not.

I understand that your phone is unlocked one. Did someone give it to you or you bought it brand new? Was it locked to any other provider than Koodo or Telus?

It is unlocked, I bought it used (I think), but completely reset (that is what I understood anyways). I don't know if it has been locked before.

Take someone's koodo, Telus or unlocked phone from different provider, put your sim card in it and check if you have the same problem.

So it looks like @Dennis may be right it could be a porting issue.

In that case you should contact Koodo so they can help you to solve this particular problem.

Alright, so I talked to Customer Service and they said that since I have to transfer from a VOIP to cell (Sugar Mobile used VOIP) it will take 2 business days to transfer the number instead of the regular 2 hours, and that all is good, I should access to all the proper services after that.

We are all glad here that your problem will soon be solved.

What was missing here and may be a little bit misleading is the fact that Sugar Mobile used VOIP. Transferring from VOIP is a little bit different and takes longer.

We all learned something from this experience.
