My phone has been doing weird things for a couple of months. Do I need a new phone or a new plan?

I have a $20 plan. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ace, about 5.5 years old. When I text, I have to wait before it will let me type. When I tried to make a phone call the other day, it wouldn't let me dial. I put the phone back in my purse and when I looked at it about 20 minutes later, there was an error message about being unable to dial. I had it paired with my car. A few weeks ago, when I turned on the bluetooth on my phone, a yes/no question came up on the car's screen. After I responded, it said it was dialing. I turned the bluetooth off and then back on. The question came up again and I responded the other way but it tried to dial again. I have since unpaired them.

It looks like it's time to get a new phone.  The Galaxy Ace was a very slow phone.  I'd definitely go to your newest Koodo shop or multibrand retailer (such as The Mobile Shop) and look at the options there, you'll be quite impressed with the new phones that are available at great prices.

EDIT - go to your NEAREST Koodo shop, not newest

Yes, that is a pretty old phone. You can go to Walmart/TMS/WOW to check gift cards on new phones/upgrades and get one, probably a Galaxy S6.

Moto G4 Play or plus would be a fantastic option IMHO. Since the customer's already on Samsung, they might feel more at home on the J3. Grab the Neo if you can find it for $0 on a tab small on an upgrade.

I think the S5 Neo is $0 on a Tab Small upgrade at most retailers, i know it is at The Mobile Shop (a friend just upgraded today and told me)

Edit - and i agree with her getting either the J3, S5 Neo, or Moto G4 Play

" My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ace, about 5.5 years old"

That's about 67 in phone years. I agree with there others to find a new phone that meets your budget. Also, it might be to your advantage to ensure it has the ability to hold an SD card for memory expansion.

LOL "about 67 in phone years" I'm going to use that to explain to my mother why she needs a new phone

If you are comfy with your Samsung (hardware home key, placement of other functions), stick with the Samsung line just for the familiarity of the interface.
