Hello Amelia,

You can try two things;

1. Restart the phone(Hold down the top "Lock" button on the phone and turn off the device, then hold the same button again to turn it back on)

2. turn off the phone, Take a paper clip(Or the "Sim Eject tool" from inside the box) and press it into the little hole on the right hand side of the device. The Sim card and tray will pop out. Take the simcard out of the tray and give the metal on the card a little rub with your finger, or a cloth. Put the simcard back in the tray and press it back into the phone. Turn the phone back on and see if it has service.

Make sure 3G is in

Settings>general>reset>reset network settings.
Note that this deletes your wifi passwords

Press and hold the Home + Power button at the same time until you see the apple logo. Then release.

If it doesn't work, return it and get a new one! You're still in your 14 days waranty!

Don't muck about with improvised fixes IMHO.

Bring it back and get a new one while you still can.

If you have an intermittent problem with this phone now, you're not going to feel any better hearing a few months down the road that you have to ship it off to get it "fixed".
