I am moving to a new city in the same area code. I want to keep my number. Is there a way to change your home location? Or can you quit koodo and then rejoin, and port over your number to the new home location? (Fort McMurray to Edmonton - both area code 780)

It's just so friends/family don't have to dial long distance to talk to me. Not everybody had Canada wide plans.

There is no way to change the system so that the same number with the same area code will now be in a different city. A Fort McMurray number will always be a Fort McMurray number.

Timo, I was wondering if like the other carriers, can you have a phone number at one place but your address at another. Let me give you an example, I lived in Montreal for a few years but my billing address was in Sudbury. So all I did was change the local number to Montreal and then back to Sudbury when I moved back. Could he just change his billing address but keep his Fort McMurray number ? This was with VM, btw.

Yes, you can Don.

Timo was trying to say that even though two cities have the same area code, they aren't local numbers to each other. For example, Hamilton and Mississauga have the same area code but if you were to move from Hamilton to Mississauga, you would be considered "long distance" even though its the same area code.

I am having a similar problem. My work contract in London, ON ended and now I am living back in Kitchener, ON and have yet to change my number. My number is now long distance to everyone and all of the resumes for jobs I applied to while on contract have this number on them. I know with Rogers you can keep your number entirely and just change where that number is based but with Koodo I can't figure out a similar option to keep the same entire number and switch cities. (I just know because my Fiance is stuck in a longer-term contract with Rogers and has moved a few times while with them). I personally can't stand dealing with them and refuse to switch over.
