I'm leaving canada for 4 months and I'm wondering if I can freeze my contract so I don't have to pay every month while I'm not using it.

You can do a vacation disconnect for 15 a month. When you get back you'll have to pick a then current market plan is the only drawback.

The main advantage of seasonal hold: you maintain your number and don't have to settle your tab.

You can't do it through online. You have to call in.
*611 from your phone and no charge for this call.

This is count as a plan change, so you can't get your current plan back when you came back.  You'll have to pick a then available plan as Goran said,
