Moving to a small town outside of Koodo's coverage area. Thought it would be as easy as visiting a kiosk but I was wrong. Customer service wait times are way too long and I move tomorrow. I need to cancel my service and unlock my phone so I can switch to a provider who covers the area. I also need to pay off the remainder of my tab and final bill but that is easy to figure out afterwards.

Are you able to call at 9am when customer service opens? The wait times are usually shortest then. If you have an android phone from Koodo then it'll be cheaper to go to a third party unlocker. I personally prefer the top feedback ones on eBay.

Well you'll get a final bill of course but that'll be available for paying it off later.

Third party unlock if practical. Port your Koodo number over to new provider. Your old account automatically closed and final bill generated. No waiting on hold.

You can call Koodo (1-866-995-6636) from your new location, once you have moved. While there might be a day or two of overlap between carriers, it should be small. Your final costs will be on your next bill, which you can obtain and pay through self-serve, as access to your account will continue for about 3 months after you close your account.

If you're able to get internet in that small town location, you could port your Koodo number to Fongo for $25 (one time fee), and use it in the app via wifi. Doesn't require sim-unlocking the phone (although it'd be best to unlock the phone, best to have the option of using whichever provider offers network coverage).

The other option is paying $7k to Telus or Bell to put up a *small* cell tower in your town. Not the most cost-enticing option, but you may be able to convince the municipality to cover the cost to bring cellular reception to their town.

You could just go to the new carrier, and port your number (If area codes are the same in the new town). When porting the number, your Koodo account would automatically be cancelled. As for unlocking, if you want to go through Koodo you can get that done online through self serve or you can buy a code from cell phone unlocker for a lot less than what Koodo charges.
