Your other option is to use an OTG connector and carry a flash drive with you. It's less convenient but it's an option.

I got the Mini MicroSD Card Reader for Android from http://www.meenova.com/ and it works great, very small check the website.

I notice it says reader, does it allow your device to write as well?

I have no need to write to it. Below is what I found at the site and it works with 4.4 and I use Nexus Media Importer.

Moto G Running Android 4.3: Read-Only Access.

You don't need a paid Third Party App such as "Nexus Media Importer" to access external USB storage (including our card reader). However, you can only read/play files stored on external storage -- even if you use Apps such as "Nexus Media Importer". Root privilege is required to write to external USB storage.
