Which is a better value? One has better specs while the other has a better battery and camera. BTW I'm buying either one outright.

It's difficult to determine which one is better value because everyone's phone needs are different. If you value a large screen, good battery life, and a great camera, then the Moto X Play is the one you want. If you want something with more premium design, a compact size, and better performance, then OnePlus X is the one for you.

What would you pick if you were only given those 2 options to keep for a year?

I have the OPX. I've had it for 3 months or so and love most of the things about the phone, but as of yesterday, it's been replaced by the Sony Xperia Z2 to address the worst thing about the OPX - battery life. It loses juice like an iPhone 5S, but without the quick charging. Now, in most cases this wasn't a problem for me as I'm usually near a charger, but it's not for everyone.

My OPX also does this annoying thing where it'll have two SMS threads for each contact, and it'll randomly pick one where the messages will be received.

Any reason you're not looking at the Nexus 5X or the Nextbit Robin at this segment?

I didn't consider 5x because my roomate bought one, and he's having technical issues with the os. I head there's going to be an update so it might resolve some issues, but it doesn't help that it's $430 for only 16gb of storage. Ill def check out the Robin!

Alright so I checked out Nextbits site and reviews online. It looks good, but I'm not sure about the $550 CAD considering the specs are equivalent to a $440 5X.

X Play is IP52 certified for it's water resistant coating. OPX processor is faster. OPX has an extra GB of RAM. X Play has 21 MP back camera vs 13 MP, while OPX has 8MP front vs 5MP. X Play has the stronger battery.
