Motorola has released their version of Nougat 7.1.1 for the Moto X Play, as per the following link directing to their website:

When can we reasonable expect this update on our Koodo handsets, and why can we not download it already?

Hi Alexander, nobody will know until it happens and actually Koodo has decided to only post updates on their schedule after they have happened for some reason so you'll just have to wait till it hits your handset to find out Unfourtunatley.

That's how android works... You might get it before the news year if you're lucky...

Yeah to answer the other question updates when first released go to the unlocked models of the phone and then trickle down to the carrier versions after much testing by each carrier which is why you can't download it as soon as its generally announced.

Disappointing in how lenovo handled the update for the Moto X Play. Delays after delay... and now we continue the wait. Thanks for the replies guys.

If you really want it before Koodo releases it, I believe it is possible with rooting your phone, but I don't think it's worth the hassle.

For the Moto X Play? It certainly IS worth the hassle!

Your warranty on Moto X Play from Koodo is expired (unless you got it from BestBuy during back to school last year...I think they and TMS had the last Koodo handsets in town when Koodo was liquidating it with all Moto X Play's at $0 on tab small).

Since the warranty's expired, go ahead and unlock bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will factory reset the phone. Download a custom ROM. Flash TWRP. Boot into TWRP, flash custom ROM. Flash root if you like.

And then you're running Android 7.1.2 :D Custom ROM's on this device are mostly stable.

Only worthy mention is that with Lineage OS ROM with Pixel Launcher, I found a bug where video playback in landscape would bug. But no bugs on Pure Nexus ROM. Once Android 8 rolls out to custom ROM's, I'll likely go back to Lineage OS due to the frequent updates.

Amazing experience! I'm so glad I got that phone from Koodo :D

You can also flash 7.1.1 on without rooting. Its the Latin America release but I doubt that matters as the model number is the same and thats all that matters.

Very easy to do.
