monthly data charge question

I have been paying a data charge of $7,50 for the past 2 months. The detail reads ''for usage that exceeds your minimum monthly charge- used 31.625mb''. I had set my device to cut out data usage when the threshold is reached. Wonder how that feature works! That said, is there any minimum data (free) allowed at all? I paid for the entire cost of the phone unit- upfront. Suggestions/advice most welcome! thanks

This is because your plan has no included data, or the amount that it does is extremely small. Immediately after you turn it on the phone, in most circumstances, something updates in the background and then you're charged because the phone doesn't know what your plan is and vice versa.

You can add a data block to your account so you'll be safe, but then picture messages won't work anymore.
