Methods of boosting cell signal?

The area I live is in a low signal zone between towers, which means I can get between 0 and (if I'm lucky) 2 bars standing in the right place. I know a friend at one time have a cellphone antenna mounted on their boat, but that was years ago and likely a bagphone. He's not around anymore to ask, so I'm hoping someone here might have some input. I know it's unlikely given the build of phones now though. :(

Is there any way to boost cell reception? Travelling the lake in our service boat, it would be wonderful to have service on most parts of the lake, as opposed to 1/4.

I know if I had an iPhone I'd just have to hold it the right way... lol

I use "One Click Signal Booster" from the Play Store & surprisingly it seems to work.

Definitely check this out I've heard great things about it. You do have to do it every day to get it to work properly but worth it if you need that boost to get service.

You bad John Burke you :D You made me spend money! I bought the app just now, the reviews (including your recommendation) convinced me right away. We live in the mountains so I'm sure it will improve things... thanks John! (no really lol)

I just realized who posted this question & I remember you saying you had a Galaxy Ace, well there is one issue. I had the Galaxy Ace for a couple weeks like a year ago & I remember I got terrible voice signal. I get full bars on my Galaxy Note 2 where I am but when I had the Galaxy Ace I only got 2 bars on average & lucky if I got 3. You should try buying a new phone & see if that makes a difference, if not you can always bring it back within the 14 day return period ;-)

We have a lot of customers that come with different phones. I actually do pretty good in comparison to most of the phones I've seen when compared side by side. :) Not sure if you got a bad one, but mine seems to be ok in regard to the antenna. We just live in a sucky cell service area.

It's more travelling in the known dead spots that it would be nice to be able to pull a bit more signal in on the lake if possible.

Few if any smartphones these days allow the ability to attach an external antenna, however there are some alternatives.

I'm not sure of the construction of your service boat, if aluminum or fibreglass, you may need to fabricate a small steel plate to act as a ground plane and to secure the magnetic mount antenna to the highest point of your service boat.

The Wilson dealer may have other alternatives, on a larger scale, a repeater system to be set up on a building could be another idea. The company I work for uses a very similar set up by the same manufacturer in almost all of the tractor trailer units and these systems work very well. I still run into dead spots here and there but that's usually attributed to the terrain i.e. mountains, forests or tunnels or the distance I am away from a major centre or town.

Lot of answers can be spent on this post, I was told that just using aluminium foil, cell signal can be boosted. unbelievable

Thanks rikkster, that looks like what I was looking for! Now to see if the company will pay for one to test in the boat... :)
