I have a Samsung GalaxyA5. Yesterday any emails I tried to send failed. What would cause them to be blocked?

It could be something from a simple error that a reboot of the device could fix or an incorrect spelling of an email address or various others things.
Make sure whatever email app your using is updated to the most recent version and check the reviews on thr playstore or appstore the email is put out from such as Samsung's app store and see if any reports of issues.
Try a different email app as well to see if it goes through with another app.

In addition to Paul comments: you could also check the mail on the web, and see if the email provider changed anything. Sometimes, their server was down, or they changed configuration, or they had some security alerts. They could potentially freeze your email send/receive functions.

Yesterday it didn't work but today it does? That's pretty un common. I'm not sure the mail provider changed anything. M'ight've been down, but I tihnk there's higher chances that it's related to the phone. 

Maybe your internet connection was weak? Maybe your m,ail provider blocked your account becasue you were elsewhere in the world (happens when travelling)..
