Last Monday I was going to trade in my BB fro the Samsung Galaxy S III. The employee that I dealt with, did a great job really selling the Galaxy S II to me. In his own words "The III is not worth the jump in price at all. The 2 phones are almost identical, you won't be able to tell the difference between the 2 except for the price." So after half an hour of being told how great the S II is, I went with that. From the 1st day I've had problems with the phone. When purchasing the phone, I said I wanted one with a battery that would last at least a full work day. The battery doesn't last more than 5 hours, even on the power saving mode. It get's hot while it's charging, and won't connect to any WIFI at all. Felling like maybe my particular phone was just a dud, I went back to Koodo 2 days later to find out that the S II has been discontinued! The company doesn't sell the phone anymore! Why would the employee try so hard to sell the phone that would be discontinued the following day?? I felt really ripped off and expressed that to the employee that I was dealing with that day. He LAUGHED and said he didn't know why the other employee would try so hard to sell me the II when "it's a low quality phone, and everyone here knows the battery's suck". Great. I then said, well is the III any better then? Is the price going to drop on the III now that the 4 is out and the II is discontinued? He said "no, the price is obviously going to stay the same. The III is better but I would suggest you go with the Nexus 4, the battery is the best and it's a better phone" I said I'd need to go home and research it as I had never even heard about that phone before.
Looking on here today, I see the III did in fact come down in price!!!
Why do your employees not know what they're talking about?? Do they have any training?? Do you have anyone who works at thee Cambridge Centre location that has any management skills??
I'm really frustrated with Koodo! After being with them from the beginning, I feel like I'm not being treated as a valued customer. We have 2 accounts with them and now we're thinking of switching service providers. Maybe another company would have better trained staff and treat us as valued customers.

It's reps like that, that make me frustrated at times when I take calls from valued customers like yourself. You go in the store expecting reps to give you good/honest information about a phone you want and when offered another phone because it is "better," we as customers buy into it.

On a possibly lighter note, you seem to be within the 14 day money back guarantee, based on the approximate date you gave. i would bring that phone back and get the manager to assist you instead of the regular reps.

There is training involved when working at the kiosks but as to the type of training...only a store rep can answer that one.

Did you go to a Koodo Kiosk or a dealer like best Buy, Wal-mart, Mobile Shop, etc?

Reps do not receive any information on which phones are being discontinued or which prices are going to change until the day it happens. The first rep you spoke to did not lie to you, the S2x is not a 'low quality phone'. It is Samsung's top of the line phone from 2 years ago. The second rep was likely mixing it up with the Ace 2x, which is indeed a low end phone.

However, the S2X now isn't the best phone to have. The battery life is really bad and there are many bugs you get later on. It is an old device and I personally don't recommend it.

Anyways, you should be able to return the phone within 14 days in purchase and get your new device.

The Nexus 4 really is a great phone for it's price. The SIII is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for - it is indeed an excellent device. You can compare the 2 phones by simply typing SIII vs Nexus 4 on Google and find more information. Then you can make your decision.

I do agree that most Reps are there to work and get your pay check. The people on this forum have an interest in this topic and want to help out to the best of their ability. I'm sorry for the bad experience and I hope whatever you decide, to leave Koodo or not; that you will have better experiences in the future.

1. I'm sorry that you had a poor salesperson. Don't let one bad grape ruin the whole bunch!

The S II X is discontinued now but there is still stock available floating around! Also, yes, nobody knows when prices change or when stocks gets discontinued.

2. The S II X is a great phone for the price, it's just a little old. It's entirely possible that it's a dud, but remember you will have to charge the phone fully a few times to get proper battery cycles.

The phone getting hot while it's charging is normal. There's an amp of electricity flowing through the charger. That level of electricity will generate a fair bit of heat.

What's your usage like? If you're playing a ton of games or watching youtube it will drain it quickly.

Also remember to swipe away apps from memory by holding down the home button and keep GPS, Bluetooth, data, etc off if you're not using them. Make sure your screen timeout isn't more than 30 seconds or a minute.

3. The S III price dropped but it still retails for $550. While it's an excellent phone, it's still a bit expensive. So, on a Medium Tab, it would cost around $250.

The Nexus 4 is fantastic hardware for the same price as the S II X ($300) and I do recommend it, because I had it for a while. It's a vanilla Android phone (no Touchwiz) with 2GB of RAM, a faster quad-core processor, an HD LCD display, and a bigger battery.

It also comes unlocked, so if you ever want to travel, you can just grab a local SIM while you're out and about. You'll get updates much faster (and almost guaranteed) since it's straight from Google.

The only problem is it doesn't have a removable battery or expandable memory, so if those are key features for you, I would stick with the S II X but if it continues to misbehave, the phone may be defective and you have every right to exchange it for the same model or another phone in that 14 day window.

Also: where did you buy your phone? Was it an actual store or a retailer? We have a Mobile Shop in Cambridge and if you bought it from us, I would like to follow up with the manager of that location.

Thank you for everyone's input. The expandable memory was a big feature for me. I don't play any games on the phone, and I haven't watched any videos on it yet. Mainly just texting, a few calls here and there, and social media. I have been fully charging the phone twice a day. I did purchase the phone at the actual Koodo Kiosk and I will be trading it in. I realize the S II X is an older model, but initially I went in looking at getting the III possibly the 4. The II wasn't even thought of until the Rep really sold it to us. This wasn't the first or second time I've had poor customer service there. I really like the flexibility that I get with Koodo, and that is why we have stayed with them for so long. Hopefully when I go back in again this week, things will be different.
