Hello..

So I've lost my phone or someone stole it this passed Saturday evening while I was out at a bar.. I reported it lost on my account via self-serve. I was looking at different phones on the Koodo website and there is a Samsung for $0 down and I would just have to pay $5 for the Sim card. I still have an almost $300.00 tab on my account for my iPhone5S. Is it possible to to go a Koodo kiosk and get them to transfer my current plan over to a new phone that's $0 down+$5 sim card, and also make payment arrangements for my current outstanding balance for the tab on the iPhone5S? I'm hoping so because I need a phone asap but do not have the money to pay my tab balance in one time atm... help me!

Hi Holly, sorry to hear about your phone.

If you still have a tab balance you'll need to pay that off in order to use another tab.

If you can't afford to pay that off you can always buy any compatiable unlocked device from Kijiji or any prepaid telus or Koodo phone from walmart. will work too.

All you'd need is a new monthly sim card which you can pickup at any kiosk or other retailer.

You can have the Tab balance billed to you when you upgrade. That'll give you time to get the money ready.
Thanks but I've gone to a kiosk today to inquire about this... they told me that I absolutely have to pay my tab before getting a new phone onto my account... I switched to Koodo a few months a go because the other company I was with wasn't great... starting to think maybe paying off my Koodo tab and switching to another provider may be the way it's going to end up...

So, in a nutshell:  You switched over to Koodo and they lent you the money for a phone interest free.  You lost the phone, still owing money on it (they're now in the hole for you).  Now you think they're a bad company because they're not going to lend you any more interest-free money after A FEW MONTHS of you as a customer?

sense of entitlement much?
I switched to Koodo because I was told it's a good company to be with. They never "lent" me anything. I pay my bill on time every month. All I asked for was a payment arrangement to pay off my current tab within a month's time-frame so that I won't be without a phone... I wouldn't care about having a phone if I didn't bus home from work late at night everyday... it's a safety feature for me. Payment arrangements are done all the time for people... why the person I was dealing with yesterday had no intention of trying to help me is beyond me..

you're confused.  If you have a tab, they lent you money for the phone
I'm not confused at all. I know what having a tab means.

you know they lent you money for the phone but "no one lent you anything"
To me it's ridiculous... I'm not asking them to just wave the tab charges I still have left on my account because someone stole my phone/ it got lost... just a simple payment arrangement so I can pay it off within a month..

Hi Holly, unfortunately phones aren't free and you have agreed to pay for your phone via these tab contributions. Koodo doesn't actually make much money on the sale of the phones so wiping what you owe so they can lend you more money doesn't make sense financially.

Jonathan is right that you can finance your tab remainder by clicking pay off my tab online. Your tab is then billed to your next bill and a new tab is available instantly. Then when you get your next bill you can call Koodo and make a payment arrangement to pay what you owe In a reasonable time.

I hope this works out for you. Sorry someone lost / stolen your phone. :(
You don't have to tell me phone's are not free I've very aware of that... what I'm saying is that yesterday when I went to talk to someone they basically said "that sucks, well its $300 before we can do anything to help you" not only were they rude but they weren't giving me any sort of options like what you said to do online.. why stay with a company that doesn't want to help me figure something out... rather than me go on a community forum and get help from random strangers..

Sounds like you might be confusing "he's being rude" with "he's not giving me what I want"
Awesome, I came on here asking a simple question

Yes, the Tab has to be repaid to upgrade to a new phone, but it can still be posted on your next invoice. Unless the policy changed recently, they should do that.

Go to a Mobile Shop or Best Buy. I think Koodo shops have corporate policies that retailers don't have to adhere to. I worked at Mobile Shop for over 2 years in 3 locations and we never once needed to have a client pay their Tab right away. When Tab S/M/L came out and the 2 year thing started becoming the norm, all the Tab balances got posted to customers' next bill.

Another option is buying an unlocked phone at Staples

That works too, but OP has stated she's having a tough time getting the funds together to pay it all upfront. It's better if she does an upgrade and has the old Tab balance posted to her next bill.

Yes good point, I somehow forgot that part
How do I go about putting the tab balance on my next bill online ?
Also, thank you for those whom are trying to help! I really appreciate it.

Log into your self serve account... Click Tab balance... You'll see a link there to pay it off now (which adds to your next bill)
Johnathan .. I'm trying to put the tab on my next bill but because I reported my phone lost/stolen they wont let me access my account?

You should still be able to access your account...are you getting an error message from the site?

Mmm no I think that sounds right.
You will have to call customer service to unsuspend the account first.

There should actually be a specific voice prompt for report lost/stolen and they can hook it back up

You're right sometimes chad.
If the person has another phone to use they wont actually suspend the service.
but depending on the circumstances the account will be suspended too and then you wont be able to get into self serve.
I'm pretty sure at least.
Like i cant even sell someone a phone unless i call in first to get it unsuspended after a lost phone report.
Thanks for your help!
